Gallelli, Burnell Haney, Jim Missel, David Harrison
Saturday
morning we arrived at the Deans Cove ramp at 3:30 am and started to
set up for the contestant’s arrival. Sign in started at 4:00am
this morning and continued until 5:25. We did have some confusion
at the ramp this morning only because there was another tournament
going out on the same ramp. Deans cove is now charging ramp fees and
also has on their dock a sign that states no power loading By the
way, this is an unauthorized DEC sign. I am going to look into finding
another ramp that does not charge (if there is any in this fine New
York State).
The weatherman stated scattered showers for this day, it turned out
that he was right. We had a good turnout for this tournament 22 in
all. This was the first time we had some concern that we would NOT
have enough boats. We had 12 boaters and 10 non boaters that is getting
close folks, but we do have arrangements already set in place if we
do get more non-boaters than boaters.
We had 2 new members join us this weekend they are Stephen Fantone
and Joseph Swader A big WELCOME to ABA Thank you for joining us. As
a matter of fact folks check out the standings, after you read this
report, that is.
Ok now to the lake conditions and pattern that were shared with me.
The lake was calm all day with overcast conditions that is until the
end of the weigh-in and the sun popped out for some picture taking.
The water temperature was 73 to 76 degrees in the areas I fished.
We did have the occasional thunder and a sprinkle now and again, until
about 11:30 when the clouds decided to let go and the rain came down!
The water for us (northerners) LOL was somewhat stained in other words
we couldn’t see our lures after 3 to 4 feet down. The patterns
that were shared with me were as follows, for the most part everyone
was fishing anywhere from 4 to 14 feet in depth, moving in and out
all day. Fish were caught on top water popper, some used this all
day.
But there was a trick to making the fish take the bait, that was to
throw the bait out, pop it two to three times and then just let it
set for up to two minutes before popping it again. While others were
reporting getting their fish on worms, Senko’s and lizards.
However, the winning pattern was: in fact a white floating worm over
the top of scattered weeds and scattered boulders. It must have been
a good one to use because 1st and 2nd place used the same pattern.
1st place
Stephen Fantone 14.66 lbs.
2nd place Tony Gallelli 13.88 lbs.
3rd place Burnell Haney 13.53 lbs
4th place Jim Missel 11.45 lbs
5th place David Harrison 11.20 lbs.
Big bass
of this tournament was caught by yours truly Joe Angelone 4.11 lbs,
but Joe has a crying towel because he was “NOT” in the
BIG BASS pot, Yet again, when will I ever learn!!!!
Second Place Big Bass and the Bass pot went to Stan McCumber with
4.05 lbs
NOTE: This was Stephen Fantone first ever tournament and he chose
to fish it with ABA, and he takes 1st place Stephen thank you for
joining us and hope to see you at many more tournaments
Next tournament is Black Lake State Ramp 8-23-03 See everyone there.
