Saturday
morning we arrived at the ramp for what
was the last tournament of the 2003 season. The points for this tournament
count towards the 2004 season.
Turnout
was lower than expected. We had 7 no shows and 2 anglers left from
the ramp stating that it was too cold. So we had a total of 14 anglers
that battled the weather conditions. The water temp was actually warmer
than the air temp. The areas that I fished had a nice warm 53 degree
water temp. LOL By the way folks this was opening day of duck hunting
season. So we needed to be a little bit cautious on the points we
were fishing, especially if you saw what you thought would be ducks,
could actually be the decoys! The air temp was 43 degrees at launch
time, cloudy and overcast, most of the day with wind conditions ranging
anywhere from 5 to 15 mph. All things considered it was not a bad
day to fish. Everyone caught fish! And almost everyone brought in
a limit.
The baits
that were used in this tournament, to the best of my knowledge, and,
talking to some of our anglers are as follows. We’ll start with
the baits that I used first, and this is no fisherman’s tale.
As many of you know, the first rod out of my box is always a top water,
true to form I started with the Lucky Craft G-splash and put my limit
in the boat with it. I then made a run down north on the lake using
a jig and pig to try to cull some of the smaller fish to no avail.
The afternoon clouded up, so I pulled out the top water again and
was able to cull two fish.
Some of the other anglers were using jig and pig, senko, and rattle
traps.
