Waking
up at 2:00am checking the thermometer reading was 50 degrees and not
a breath of air moving at my house. Checking the sky, stars were in
full
view, it's going to be a sunny day. Arriving at the ramp at 4:00am
the wind
had shifted from what it had been all week long. During the week the
winds
had been out of the North steady from 10 to occasionally 20 mph. But
this
morning they had shifted and coming from dead South, which made Irondequit
Bay ramp side have choppy water. Some of the early morning conversation
was
that the Bay was not going to hold big enough fish to win the event.
Some of
guys were going to Lake Ontario to get a quick limit of Bronze backs
(Small
Mouth Bass), then try to cull for the bigger fish. The lake does hold
3 to 4
lb. Smallies. Yet others were going to make about a 20 mile run West
to
another Bay noted to hold nice Largemouth Bass, getting away from
the
fishing pressure.
Temperatures being down and the wind blowing the jackets were coming
out it
was slightly chilly. Turnout being lighter than had been expected
and the
safety briefing completed, the boats were launched.
The water temperature at launch time was 72 degree's down 8 degree's
just
from last Sunday. Water clarity ranged from muddy to stained. The
Bay for
the most part has a muddy bottom. By 2:00pm it had warmed to 75 degree's.
The baits of choice that were shared with me: Plastic Worm, Jig/pig,
senko,
spinner bait, and my fish came on centipede, Plastic worm, and 2 different
Lizards, with my bigger fish from the lizard's
The Results:
