August
7th, 2004:
The weatherman was calling for scattered showers Saturday, this has
been a very wet summer here in upstate NY. The temperature was to
be in the low 70’s. The winds were to be mild with some gusts,
coming from the northeasterly direction. Clouds were scattered.
Arriving at the ramp approximately 3:50 AM. We already had anglers
sleeping at the ramp. Assigning boat numbers by early registration
and time of morning arrival seems to be getting everyone there earlier.
Anglers seem to like this format even the non-boaters. Thanks Mike
Garlen for the suggestion. We had a full field of 20 anglers with
5 regulars not being able to make it. Just to let you know guys, we
did miss you. We did hit some showers on the morning trip to the ramp…we
all kind of thought it was going to be a wet day on the water. But
it did turn out to be a very nice day. Chilly in the morning but warming
up in the afternoon.
Launch took place at a little after 6 am. With weigh in to be at 2:30
pm. We had two boats go down at launch time…getting the boats
back to the ramp to work on them and getting them repaired and back
out to fish by 7 am. From all the information that us (tell the truth
fishermen) offered this is what I was told was used: jig and pig,
senkos, plastic worm, tubes and spinnerbaits. Many anglers were throwing
a white spinnerbait, silver blade. However, whenever I threw that
combination I was guaranteed a pike! The big bass of the tournament
was caught on a plastic worm, the color seems to allude me right now,
haha! By the way, big bass for this tournament was caught by Joe Liptak,
who has been a member of this organization since the early 80’s..and
the weight was 7.45 lbs. A great fish for upstate New York!! That
would equal an 11 pounder in Florida!! This is the largest bass of
the season. Joe won this tournament with only three fish, with a total
weight of 12.65! Nice job Joe!
The bite was extremely tough …with only 3 anglers bringing in
a limit of 5 fish, and two anglers that unfortunately didn’t
weigh anything. Here are the results:
Great job Guy’s
