Irondequoit Bay 7-29-2006
Tournament results

The day started out very promising we had 17 anglers pre registered for this tournament. Everyone had been looking forward to this tournament, possibly because it is home water to many of the anglers. A total of 27 anglers participated in the event. With only a couple of tournaments left for the 2006 season and the 2 day event coming up in 3 weeks anglers are scrambling to get the needed 4 one day tournaments required to participate in our district final. They are also trying to increase their point totals to qualify for the national competition which will be held in Tennessee the first week of October. The day started cloudy with the weather man predicting a high in the 90’s with the winds south west 5 to 15 mph. changing later in the day to westerly. Anyone planing on going into Lake Ontario with this wind direction could have a bumpy ride getting back to the launch site for weigh in.

Many of the anglers chose to fish the bay area itself. Some of us did venture into the lake and make runs to East Bay, Sodus Bay and Braddocks Bay. The water temperature in the bay in the areas that I fished was from 78 to 81 degrees the lake temperature was in the low 70’s. This Bay is strictly enforced by the D.E.C with a speed of 25 mph max., also fishing licenses and boat safety checks are quite regular. We did have several anglers say that they had been pulled over for these inspections. One angler received a warning for a safety issue while another did not have his fishing license with him and had to be DQ’d from the event.

From what I could tell while going around the bay fishing different locations, the anglers were in many different locations some fishing the humps and drop-off’s while others were hitting the shoreline where they could find weed lines. The anglers were very tight lipped about what they were using. Reason being that our 2 day event is just up the lake a few miles and many could run to the bay and fish it. However, I do know the winning pattern and sorry Mark I’ll let the cat out of the bag. Pumpkin jig with a white trailer and throw in a senko the mix for a different look. Oh Don’t forget to dip the trailer in some garlic chartreuse dye. How the heck did you come up with that combination Mark??

The Top 5 finishers are:
1st Place Mark Hertlein 17.75lbs.
2nd Place Jim Missel 16.35lbs
3rd Place Dave Livingston 14.33lbs.
4th Place Dave Kotwas 11.70lbs.
5th Place Rodney Magee 11.54lbs

Big Fish honors went to Mark Hertlein with a 4.80

Dave Livingston and Jim Missel shared 2nd place big fish with a 4.23 pounder each

Our next tournament is on August 12th on Butterfield Lake. I’ll be at the ramp at 4 am. Hope we can have another full field for another 200 point tournament! Don’t forget Burnie, District 124 has a tournament the following day, August 13th, at Henderson Harbor.
