Lake Tournament Results June 24, 2006
This
was the third tournament of District 4’s regular tournament
season. We had another good turnout, 21 Anglers participated in this
event. The weather forecast was to be hot and sunny all day, and the
weather man was correct. The temperature was in the mid 80’s,
with a very light breeze, clear skies, hot and humid all day. The
water temperature was in the mid 70’s, clarity of the water
was dependent on what part of Oneida Lake being fished. Oneida Lake
is roughly 20 miles long and maybe a mile and half at it’s widest
point. The lake has many shoals and several islands. Weed beds have
changed over the past years, if you hadn’t done any scouting
and ran to an area, you may not find the weeds that were there in
previous years.
We had
one no show for the tournament. The angler had developed a kidney
stone and was in the hospital the night before. We sure hope for his
quick recovery. We only had one angler that came in with no fish.
Unfortunately, we also had a disqualification, the angler mistakenly
had 6 fish in his livewell. I would like to commend this angler for
his integrity and his honesty. He came up to me, told me, he mistakenly
had 6 fish in his livewell, knowing that I would have to disqualify
him. The five fish that he had tagged for weigh-in would have been
the winning weight for the tournament. He has my total respect and
the respect of all the other anglers that fished with us.
Out
of the 21 anglers that fished, 17 came in with 5 fish limits. From
the reports that I received anglers were catching fish anywhere from
2 foot of water to 12 and 14’ of water. The lures of choice
seemed to be top water, first thing in the morning, then switching
to jigs, senkos, lizards and crankbaits.
