Sodus Bay 7-23-2005
The weather
forecast looked favorable for today’s event. Weatherman was
calling for partly cloudy conditions with the air temp. low to mid
80’s. He was right on the button with this one. Wind conditions
were out of North Northwest.. 5 to 20 mph gusts. With this type of
wind direction going out into Lake Ontario in our bass boats would
not be a very good idea, especially if you wanted to stay dry. With
this type of wind direction and gusts…Lake Ontario becomes somewhat
treacherous for smallcrafts.
The wave
action in the bay was 1 to 1 ½ ft…depending on if you
were at the North end of the bay or the South end of the bay. Water
temp that I recorded ranged from 79 to 83 degrees. It seems as though
the bay is just getting ready to turn over. Our DEC department sprayed
this bay for weed growth a couple weeks ago. So we were really unsure
of how it was going to affect the fishing. All week long many of the
anglers going out to prefish, had said that the bite was tough. The
water clarity was stained throughout the bay. We broke another record
with this tournament. We had 36 anglers! This was our second open
tournament of the year. We had 6 non members fish with us that expressed
high interest in becoming ABA members next season.
Everyone
worked together in getting the boats in the water. The bags of fish
that were coming in were heavy. Most of the anglers were fishing off
shore on weedlines, but there were some of us die hards that pounded
docks…yours truly being one of them! The individuals that were
thoughtful enough to share their information, the top 3 finishers
everyone of them was throwing a jig and pig, some were throwing brush
hogs, senkos and plastic worms. Jigs were black and blue and didn’t
share the color of the plastic.
