2 day Championship conditions and Results
First let me say that our photographer neglected to get a photo of
the top 5 together. Saturday Morning was calm and cloudy. Many anglers
had mentioned that they were going to make long runs. Leaving Sodus
Bay and venturing into Lake Ontario. The wind conditions were favorable
Saturday morning to do just that. Some of the anglers made a 20+ mile
run to other areas. It was advantageous for a few of the anglers,
while a couple struggled to catch a limit. Most of the anglers stayed
right in the bay. We had 13 limits brought to the scales on Day one
of the competition. From the information that was shared the baits
of choice were Senkos, Jig and Pig, Buzz bait, Brush Hugs. Black seemed
to be the color of choice. Dave Kotwas brought in the big bag of the
day with just under 17 lbs. followed by Jim Missel with a 14.86 bag.
Day 2
The weather man predicted that the weather was about to change. Why
are they always right on tournament days. The prediction was for rain
and high winds from the westerly direction. With that bad news we
knew that the good Lake Ontario was going to be rolling by late morning.
Which altered just about all the anglers decisions about running to
other locations. Except a couple of us that would brave the wind and
waves. By launch time the waves in the Lake were 2 to 3 foot. By 9:30
the waves were 4 to 6 footers and I'll have to tell ya all that my
21X handled them quite well and got me to the ramp on time, I wouldn't
have even got wet if there wasn't a torrential down pour. It was quite
a ride. At the end of day 2 competition we had 13 more limits brought
to the scales. The lures of choice were the same as day 1 even though
some adjustments had to be made to compensate for the high winds.
Most of the bigger fish were taken between 10 and 20 feet of water,
with weeds next to the drop offs. Jim Missel brought in the biggest
bag of the day, just under 14 pounds. Tom Riley brought in the second
big bag of the day just under 13 pounds. With Jim's strong finish
he overtook Dave Kotwas that brought 10.4 lbs. to the scale.
With Jim Missel's strong finish he regains the title of District 4
Angler of the Year!
Congratulations Jim!!
